Days and Hours of Bus Service
Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Saturday: LIMITED service on Routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and Alta Sierra (AS) from 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM. The Saturday service schedules are shown separately on the route pages. Please check individual routes for specific time schedules. There is no Sunday service.
Service Holidays No service is provided on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Day, Veteran’s Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, TBD County observed holidays as required.
Considerate Passenger Policies
For public safety, face masks are highly recommended to be worn if feeling ill when traveling on public transportation.
For those community members who are using our system we respectfully request that all passengers observe the following CDC recommended precautions to prevent the spread of illnesses:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before and after riding public transit. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
- Stay home if you are sick. IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL, DO NOT TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Call your healthcare provider before you leave your home and follow their guidance.
How To Ride
- Please arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before your bus is scheduled to leave.
- Please REQUEST A TRANSFER UPON BOARDING the bus.
- Have EXACT FARE READY. Drivers are not able to make change for fares.
- Please avoid using excessive amounts of coins.
- For safety, driver stops at authorized and designated bus stops only.
- Please allow passengers to exit the bus before you board. Seats closest to the front of the bus are reserved for seniors and disabled passengers.
- Limit CARRY-ONS to the size and number you can personally handle, that do not block aisles, adjacent seating, or wheelchair designated areas, and allow for safe boarding and passenger securement.
Lost & Found
If you lose an item on the bus or at a bus stop/shelter, call us at (530) 477-0103, option 0, and tell us the date, time, and route on which the item was lost. Please do the same for found items. Items must be claimed within 30 days or they may be disposed of.
Service Animals & Pets
Service animals are allowed under the following conditions: they are under the owner's control at all times, they do not sit on seats and they do not block the aisle.
Pets are allowed as long as they transported in a secure, leak-proof cage or container. No animals may be on seats or blocking aisles. Driver’s may refuse transport or will remove animals that are aggressive and/or create a hazard, mess, or disturbance.
On-Demand Bus Stops
ON-DEMAND stops are defined as stops that will only be served when requested by the passenger, ONLY at times indicated on the route schedule. ON-DEMAND stops are indicated by star symbols on the map and shaded columns on the schedules.
To Request On-Demand Pick-Up
Call the Nevada County Connects office (477-0103 ext. 0) between the hours of 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday - Friday. FOR PICK UP PRIOR TO 8:00 AM PLEASE CALL THE DAY BEFORE, FOR ALL OTHER PICK UPS PLEASE CALL AT LEAST 60 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE DESIRED STOP TIME TO ENSURE A RIDE.
REQUESTS PRIOR TO 7:00 AM must be made by calling the office prior to 7:00 PM the day before.
For A Drop Off
Passengers must ask the driver for an on-demand stop when boarding the bus.
Wheelchair Lifts & Bike Racks
All Nevada County Transit buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and employ tie-downs for required wheelchair securement. All Nevada County Connects buses are equipped with front-mounted bike racks, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers must be able to load and unload their bikes without assistance and Nevada County Connects is not responsible for damage to bicycles. Un-claimed bicycles will be locked and stored at the Nevada County Transit office and must be claimed within 30 days. No motorized bikes or hoverboards are allowed in or on buses. The County of Nevada, Department of Public Works Transit Services Division (Transit Services) operates its programs and services without regard to race, color and national origin in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Any person who believes she or he has been aggrieved by any unlawful discriminatory practice under Title VI may file a complaint with Transit Services.

Passenger Rules

- To ensure a pleasant ride for all, smoking, eating, drinking, playing loud music, or having loud cell phone conversations are not allowed. Shirts and shoes are required. (Bottled water allowed.)
- Inappropriate, disruptive, or abusive behavior is not permitted, nor will it be tolerated, and may result in removal from the bus, suspension of bus service, and/or criminal charges.
- WE ARE A SMOKE-FREE ZONE! No smoking on buses or at bus shelters, bus stops, or the Tinloy Transit Center. NO EXCEPTIONS
- Panhandling/solicitation is prohibited on the bus or at stops.
- Any recycling items must be secured and in a leak-proof container. If items leak they will be removed from the bus.
- Remain seated until the bus stops. If you must stand while the bus is in motion, hold grab rails tightly.
- Notify the driver one block prior to your stop by pulling the bell cord.
- No weapons, flammable, and/or hazardous material allowed on the bus. (Hazardous materials and items list may be found in the updated Passenger Policies document linked above)
- Due to safety issues, there are no flag stops unless noted.
Transit Connections
Nevada County Connects Route 5 travels to Auburn Station for connections to Placer County Transit, Auburn Transit, Sacramento Light Rail, and Amtrak Thruway bus service AS CONNECTING SCHEDULES ALLOW. (Amtrak schedules are subject to change without notification.)
