Community Wildfire Protection Plan

What is a Community  Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)?

A CWPP is a document collaboratively developed to identify local solutions to wildland fire management. The plan identifies and prioritizes areas for hazardous fuels reduction treatments, addresses community preparedness, and recommends actions homeowners and communities can take to reduce structure ignitability. In other words, it allows us to prioritize the places and resources that are important to us and to protect what we value most in our community.

The Final CWPP includes all of Nevada County. Sections 1 through 6 provide a County-wide perspective of the CWPP and thus are relevant to all of Nevada County. Sections 7 through 10 each focus on one of the four Forecast Zones of the CWPP and act as small Forecast Zone specific CWPP's. The CWPP includes four annexes that focus on certain priorities within Nevada County. Annexes work together with this CWPP, with the County CWPP functioning as a broader umbrella document. Priorities identified in the annexes can also be considered priorities under this CWPP. There are four annexes included in the Nevada County CWPP (1) City of Grass Valley, (2) City of Nevada City, (3) Truckee Fire Protection District, and (4) Nevada County Resource Conservation District.

Find Your CWPP Forecast Zone

Click on the map below to find your CWPP Forecast Zone. Nevada County ranges from 1,000-7,000+ feet of elevation above sea level.  To serve the unique needs of the communities residing in these varied landscapes, we have divided the county into four forecast zones on fire environment and community identity. These zones will help us more acutely understand the differences in fire hazards across the County and identify community-specific wildfire risk reduction opportunities.
