How serious are Nevada County’s dedicated poll workers about running an election? They are willing to serve voters through a blizzard.
“I feel honored and privileged to serve my county,” said Marie Clukey, the 71-year-old manager of the Truckee Town Hall Vote Center
She and other temporary elections staff braved icy roads and dangerous conditions to staff the two Truckee vote centers during a severe snowstorm Saturday, March 2 and continued operations daily through Election Day March 5.
“Our workers don’t get paid a lot – they’re doing it because they care,” said Registrar of Voters Natalie Adona.
Clukey had a difficult time even getting to her vote center because of the snow. This is the first blizzard she can recall in Truckee in the 27 years she has lived there. She said she was glad to help.
Clukey said she was glad to help out and plans to continue staffing county elections. “When they call me, I will always go,” she said.
