National Weather Service Sacramento warns of the dangerous heat that will continue through Saturday evening for the Valley & Foothills. The high temperatures range between 96 and 110. During this extreme heat, it is important to reduce the risk of heat stress or injury. Stay hydrated, reduce your time in the sun between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and stay in a cool or shaded place during the heat of the day. All Nevada County Library branches are open during the heat of the day on Saturday to cool off, with the Penn Valley Library having Open+ hours for library card holders.
This heat will limit overnight cooling and affect the majority of the population. Check on older, sick, or frail people who may need help responding to the heat. Each year, dozens of children and untold numbers of pets left in parked vehicles die from hyperthermia. Keep your children, disabled adults, and pets safe during tumultuous heat waves.
Here are some tips on staying safe during excessive heat
- Slow down or reduce strenuous activities till the coolest time of day
- Dress light and breathable in light-colored clothing
- Minimize direct exposure
