Mike Castro is our new Senior Management Analyst. He is replacing Nancy Haffey, who retired this month. Mike is responsible for benefits plans administration, open enrollment, leave management and interactives, discipline and investigations, and COVID case management. Mike hails from Southern California (Thousand Oaks area). He worked there as a Staff Relations Consultant for Cheesecake Factory, where he performed many of the same tasks as he will be doing here. He also worked for 8 years as a Senior Management Analyst and Operations Manager for Ventura County Sanitation District (VCSD). VCSD operated as a Special District which owns and operates a landfill serving nine cities and unincorporated Ventura County, as well as managing, operating, and maintaining potable water, recycled water, and wastewater, facilities, and systems for cities, schools, and other agencies. Mike received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics and an MBA, both from Cal State University Long Beach.
Katie Ormsby is our latest Management Technician. Katie replaces Tami Martinson, who also retired this month. Katie is responsible for recruiting, benefits and payroll processing, onboarding, position control, and related responsibilities for a large swath of the County organization—all of Community Development Agency, Information and General Services, and the Library. Katie first came to us in 2019 as a volunteer, learning the myriad front desk duties of our office. From there, she “graduated” to becoming a temporary Office Assistant II, handling NeoGov administrative tasks, establishing and maintaining a position control tracking system still in use today, and special projects. Katie left Human Resources for a short time and joined Child Support Services as a Human Services Specialist. She returned to Human Resources to continue her career here with us. Katie has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UC Davis.
Shawna Cresswell is a new Senior Management Technician. Shawna comes to us from Nevada Irrigation District, Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, and Grass Valley Fire Department. Shawna’s job duties spanned payroll, finance, and human resources. She is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and related tasks for the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, County Counsel, and Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office. Shawna is also responsible for being the nexus between the recruitment process and the internship process, helping ensure that interns who are sourced and brought on are connected to internal systems. Finally, Shawna will help roll out a new mentorship program and will support continuous process improvement initiatives within the office. Shawna has an Associate’s degree in Accounting and is working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.
We welcome Mike, Katie, and Shawna to our existing team.
