[ARCHIVED] Apply to Join the Assessment Appeals Board

Applications open for Assessment Appeals Board

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors is looking for community members to join the Assessment Appeals Board. Members of the Assessment Appeals Board are involved in the community as a part of an independent entity that works to resolve disputes between taxpayers and the county assessor. The board holds hearings in which they review evidence and render determinations on value and other matters of property tax assessment within the appeals board jurisdiction. The full functions of the board are outlined in Section 1620 et seq. of the Revenue and Taxation Code.

Positions include one regular member, to fill an unexpired three-year term ending September 30, 2023; and two alternate members to fill one-year terms ending September 30, 2023.

Members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Applicants should have a competent knowledge of property appraisal and taxation. Professional experience as a public accountant, licensed real estate broker, attorney, or accredited/certified property appraiser may help meet this requirement. Members are compensated per Nevada County Administrative Code, and mileage is reimbursed to and from meetings.

Newly appointed members are required to file a Financial Disclosure Statement and sign an Oath of Office prior to serving.

Interested parties can apply online. For more information, contact the Clerk of the Board office by email or by phone at 530-265-1480.
