[ARCHIVED] Veterans Services Office Collaborates with DA and Public Defender

The Nevada County Veterans Services Office is proud to announce that Nevada County will be hosting its first modified Veterans Court on Friday, May 20th, in collaboration with the District Attorney’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office.

The Nevada County Veterans Services Office (VSO) collaborates with federal, state, and local agencies to build programs that can assist veterans experience success in every area of their life. Many veterans experience difficulties in their post-service careers.  These challenges can include securing a well-paying job, excelling in college classes, thriving in relationships, homelessness, or self-medicating due to injuries or conditions obtained during their service. Sometimes these challenges can lead to interactions with local law enforcement and legal troubles.

Any veteran who currently has outstanding warrants, tickets, or minor misdemeanor infractions is encouraged to contact the VSO at veteransservices@co.nevada.ca.us. The VSO’s main priority is to assist with determining eligibility and settling disruptions that can be costly or prevent a veteran from being successful in civilian life.  The Veterans Court event and VSO’s goal is to assist veterans and will not be looking to incarcerate or arrest anyone who attends or reaches out.

In conjunction with this event, Grass Valley will be hosting its first-ever “Armed Forces Day” on Saturday, May 21st. The event will honor the active-duty members of our Armed Forces, and every branch of service is expected to be in attendance.  The event will include military service dog presentations, technology presentations, vehicles on display, and multiple flyovers of the city.  Please mark your calendars for a great day of food, festivities, and celebration of our Armed Forces.

Nevada County VSO believes that the modified Veterans Court is a great way to assist and honor our veterans in advance of this special day.  Please contact the Nevada County Veterans Services Office at (530) 273-3396 to see if you are eligible to participate in this unique opportunity.
