Nevada County District III Supervisor Dan Miller recently led a delegation to Washington D.C. advocating for rural county issues as the current chair of Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC). RCRC is an advocacy association representing 38 rural California counties in Sacramento and Washington D.C.

Supervisor Miller teamed up with RCRC 1st Vice-Chair and Butte County Supervisor Doug Teeter, RCRC 2nd Vice-Chair and Monterey County County Supervisor Chris Lopez, and RCRC Immediate Past Chair and Mono County Supervisor Stacy Corless to meet with top congressional leaders and administration officials, including Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Alex Padilla, and members of the House of Representatives including Nevada County’s delegates Congressman Doug LaMalfa and Congressman Tom McClintock. The RCRC delegation also met with representatives from the U.S. Department of Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), and U.S. Department of Transportation.

The delegation successfully advocated for rural counties on a host of issues, including broadband, wildfire mitigation and forest management, road and bridge and zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, and other funding issues related to the Farm Bill and Payment -in-Leu-Taxes (PILT).

Supervisor Miller explained, “We were successful in urging D.C. officials to take action on the most pressing issues facing rural California counties, including wildfire, broadband, and transportation. We had a very productive meeting with folks from the Department of Transportation to ensure rural counties can take full advantage of the funding being poured into the country’s infrastructure, which directly translates into the work that Nevada County staff are doing to leverage funds for our local community.”

Nevada County has been a long-time member of RCRC, with former District I Supervisor Nate Beason serving as the RCRC Chair in 2014, followed by Supervisor Miller as the current representative. As the current chair of the association, RCRC will be holding its annual meeting of the Chair in Grass Valley this summer.
