[ARCHIVED] Human Resources Wins 2022 Textio Leadership Award

Nevada County's HR team has been recognized by TEXTIO a second year in a row by earning Textio's prestigious Leadership Award. Nevada County is amongst a small number of employers who have been recognized for this achievement.

"Our HR team is dedicated to excellence. We set out in 2020 to be the best HR office in the State, and being recognized on the State, Federal, and now Global scene as an HR leader is confirmation of our goal," said Nevada County Human Resources Director Steve Rose.

Only 20 companies in total have earned this coveted designation this year, and of those, 11, including Nevada County, have been recognized two years in a row. Nevada County is one of only two public sector award winners and competes with Fortune 500 companies like McDonald's, Procter and Gamble, Hulu, and eBay.

"The TEXTIO program is managed by Susan Kadera, a career HR professional and longtime Nevada County employee. Her dedication and drive have made the program such a great success and garnered prestigious recognition amongst thousands of employers globally," added Rose.

All Nevada County job postings must achieve a TEXTIO score of 95% and be in the top 5% of all companies using the platform to qualify for this distinction. The Textio Score measures how engaging and inclusive job posts are based on the predicted impact of the language used. To accomplish this challenge, County recruiters and hiring managers have worked closely to ensure that all job posts meet our County's quality and inclusion standards, recognizing that the language used shapes who we are and what we stand for.

TEXTIO is an augmented writing platform designed to assist in writing a more diverse job posting by highlighting words or phrases that inadvertently detract job candidates because they speak to one age group, ethnicity, or gender, over another. TEXTIO then provides suggestions for alternative language which demonstrates value in inclusion, appealing to the broadest spectrum of job-seekers, and telling job seekers Nevada County is a growth-mindset employer.

Despite COVID, storms, and power outages, Nevada County's Human Resources team had a banner year in 2021. To start, Human Resources was recognized by the Secretary of Labor Martin Walsh for our participation in the HIREVETS program, which earned us the Platinum Level distinction. Nevada County is the only organization on the West Coast out of 17 awardees recognized at the Platinum level. Human Resources' Internship program was recognized by CSAC and awarded a Challenge Award for offering innovative internship opportunities across the organization.
