World Breastfeeding Week is recognized and celebrated by organizations throughout the world every year from August 1 to 7. This year the theme is "Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding," which focuses on inclusion of all types of parents. Breastfeeding success improves when fathers, partners, families, workplaces, and communities come together to support breastfeeding mothers and babies.
Nevada County Public Health Department celebrates breastfeeding throughout the year in a variety of programs, including Women, Infants & Children (WIC) and Maternal, Child & Adolescent Health (MCAH). Both programs are dedicated to supporting breastfeeding families through the provision of a wide range of services.
This year the Nevada County Fair kicks off at the end of World Breastfeeding Week. Mothers looking for a comfortable place to feed and change their babies can find their way to the Rock & Relax Lounge in Ponderosa Hall. The lounge is supported by the Nevada County Breastfeeding Coalition.
