[ARCHIVED] Public Health Celebrates 6th Annual Health Fair at Silver Springs High School

Nevada County Public Health, in collaboration with Silver Springs High School in Grass Valley, celebrated the 6th Annual Silver Springs Health Fair on May 31st. Students enjoyed a day of health and wellness classes, outdoor experiential booths and healthy snacks. The goal of the fair is that students who may face personal or academic challenges gain new coping mechanisms and tools for success by being exposed to positive messaging around health, and that all students have the chance to experience supports focused on healthy living.

The morning classes focused on physical and emotional wellness, with classes like Healthy Relationships, Mindfulness, Fitness Training, Music & Movement, Martial Arts, Hula Hooping, Tobacco Prevention, Poetry, and Nutrition. Students then explored festive booths, including a smoothie bicycle, "Rethink Your Drink" fruit-infused water recipes, vaping education, veggie starts, hiking trail information, and Grass Valley Police's impairment carts. The fair ended with a raffle for students featuring generous donations from local businesses including Grocery Outlet, South Pine Café, Durgas Café, Briar Patch Co-op, South Yuba Club, Kinfolk Yoga and Yoga Well.

Public Health would like to acknowledge the many partners that taught classes and hosted booths, including Grass Valley Police, Bear Yuba Land Trust, Sierra Harvest, The Clinic!, Fit Culture Studios, martial artist Gopal Sims, Community Beyond Violence, California Poets in the Schools, music educator Andrew Werderitsch, Nevada County Superintendent of Schools' TUPE program and Public Health's Tobacco Use Prevention.
