On the one-year anniversary of Nevada County’s Lobo and McCourtney Fires, Nevada County’s Office of Emergency Services urges residents to be fire safe this weekend. Although we’ve received some rain throughout the County earlier this week, National Weather Service is predicting gusty and windy weather that will dry out the ground quickly and contribute to possible high fire danger this weekend.
Get Prepared
It is important for residents to be prepared, and have a go bag ready if an evacuation is needed. Find preparedness resources and guides online on CAL FIRE's Ready for Wildfire website, and Nevada County Fire Season Guide.
Help Prevent Fires
Residents can also help prevent fires. Be fire safe by avoiding outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation such as yard work with lawnmowers or power equipment that creates sparks, target shooting, or campfires. Make sure to follow local fire restrictions.
Sign Up for CodeRED Emergency Alerts
Lastly, remember to sign up for CodeRED Emergency Alerts. CodeRED Emergency Alerts notify residents when an emergency event, such as an evacuation, is happening in their neighborhood.
