As you may have heard, Randy Economy, a Southern California talk show host and key player in last year’s gubernatorial recall effort, recently requested a recount of the June 7 clerk-recorder race. Nevada County’s certified vote totals for the race show Natalie Adona won the clerk-recorder race with 22,800 votes, or 67.9%. Jason Tedder received 7,843 votes, or 23.3%. Paul Gilbert took 2,942 votes, 8.8%. Economy requested the recount on behalf of Tedder, who claims there are a “growing quantity of irregularities surrounding the June 7th Clerk-Recorder race.”
Incumbent Clerk-Recorder Gregory Diaz tells me that not one single person has requested to meet with him to discuss any alleged voting irregularities in our county. That leads me to believe that the latest claims of voting “irregularities” are more of the baseless attacks we’ve seen elsewhere that serve to erode faith in democracy and our governmental institutions. If you have a concern about elections integrity in Nevada County, please reach out to the Clerk-Recorder’s office to discuss them. They are ready and willing to share information.
