Nevada County has been awarded $1.7 Million in Youth Workforce funds from the State’s California Volunteers program.
The purpose of the initiative is to increase youth employment, develop youth interest in and experience towards a career, and to strengthen our community’s capacity to address urgent community challenges in the areas of climate, food insecurity, and local COVID-19 recovery.
“We’re thrilled to be able to provide living wage employment opportunities for under-resourced youth in our community while creating more capacity to tackle some of our county’s most challenging issues,” said Nevada County Social Services Director Rachel Peña.
Nevada County plans to partner with Connecting Point and Bright Futures for Youth to create and build upon existing youth workforce development programs and career and technical education pathways. The two-year program launches in July of 2022.
The program is made possible by the CaliforniansForAll Youth Workforce Program. This program is a Governor’s initiative administered by CaliforniaVolunteers in partnership with California counties and cities with populations of less than 300,000.
