On Monday, March 18, 2019, Nevada County Public Health's Tobacco Prevention Program supported several local youth in their participation in Youth Quest 2019. Youth Quest is an annual event hosted by the California Youth Advocacy Network to celebrate and promote youth advocacy in tobacco control. Members of the Reform, Overcome, Support and Educate (ROSE) Coalition, a local youth-led tobacco prevention coalition, participated in this event, alongside 343 other California youth and adult supporters.
Youth Quest encourages youth advocates to build on their advocacy skills by sharing their local tobacco prevention work with their state legislators. This event gives youth an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to building a tobacco-free California and to increase their knowledge on current tobacco control efforts in the state.
The ROSE Coalition strives to educate local youth on the harmful effects of tobacco on individuals and the environment. In keeping with this mission, Kylie Armbruster and Maya Diaz (pictured) from North Point Academy in Grass Valley spoke to local assemblypersons and staff during their visit to the Capitol. Their talk focused on the vaping issues they see in Nevada County and how to tackle this epidemic.
