PLanning commission public hearing scheduled for May 10th for Idaho Maryland Mine project

Proposed Idaho-Maryland Mine Project Notice of Public Hearing Released

The Nevada County Planning Department released the Notice of Public Hearing on the proposed Idaho Maryland Mine – Rise Grass Valley Project. 

The Planning Commission will hold a Special Meeting for the Public Hearing of the proposed Idaho Maryland Mine – Rise Grass Valley Project on May 10th and may be continued on May 11th, 2023, as needed. Further information on how to participate and provide written or oral comments at the public hearing can be found in the Notice of Public Hearing.

Nevada County Connects Makes Bus Stops Easier to Navigate

Nevada County Connects’ Tinloy Transit Center in downtown Grass Valley recently received a colorful transformation to make the transit hub easier to navigate and more accessible. The Nevada County Transit Division aimed to create a simple, color-coded visual representation to help riders identify where to wait and board the bus.

“Tinloy Station riders can now easily match the curb to the bus they are waiting for. By adding color and route numbers, we hope to improve the rider experience, accessibility, and navigation throughout Nevada County Connects transit system,” said Transit Services Manager Robin Van Valkenburgh.

Heba El-Guindy as Public Works Director

Heba El-Guindy has joined Nevada County as Director of Public Works, bringing nearly 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors.

“I’m excited to work with the community and our Public Works team on the complex projects and programs that come with living in a rural area,” shared El-Guindy. “Rural communities have unique challenges in creating a safe transportation system that’s also walkable, bikeable, and supports transit use, and aligned with the community’s vision, but I’m passionate about it. I’m looking forward to bringing my expertise in safe multi-modal transportation to projects in Nevada County. I believe in Public Works’ role in serving the public and meeting their solid waste, wastewater, and road needs,” shared El-Guindy.

April 18th Board of Supervisors Meeting Preview

The Tuesday, April 18th meeting starts at 9:00 am at the Eric Rood Administrative Center in the Board Chambers. 

Members of the public can provide general public comments or comment on items on the agenda by attending the meeting in person, emailing BOS.PublicComment@nevadacountyca.gov, calling 530-270-3474, or by using the Board’s eComment system. Please submit written comments before 4:00 pm on Monday, April 17th, to provide time for the Board members to read them and for your comments to become part of the public record. Following Public Comment and the Consent Calendar, District II Supervisor Ed Scofield will recognize CAL FIRE employees Joe Kennedy and Eric Ayers for their achievement in being awarded the California Gold Medal of Valor.

Next, Social Services Director Rachel Peña will introduce a presentation on the Alliance for Workforce Development's Program Year 2021/22 Performance Report and then bring a resolution proclaiming April 2023 as "Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month" in Nevada County.

Then, District Attorney Jesse Wilson will introduce a resolution proclaiming April 23 through April 29, 2023 as "National Crime Victims' Rights Week" in Nevada County.

Lastly, Public Works Director Heba El-Guindy will introduce Caltrans' presentation regarding the California Road Charge Program and then bring a resolution approving the Capital Improvement Plan 2023 annual update.

Upcoming NorCal AIDS Cycle Event Supports HIV and Hep C Testing Clinic

The Nevada County Public Health Department's free and confidential HIV and Hep C Testing Clinic is excited to once again be a beneficiary of the annual NorCal AIDS Cycle in 2023. The mission of the NorCal AIDS Cycle is to support organizations throughout Northern California that are working to end the HIV/AIDS pandemic and care for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Those interested in participating in the annual cycling event held May 20th through 21st can visit the NorCal AIDS Cycle website to register.

The Rotary Clubs of Western Nevada County are offering a unique recycling event at the Eric Rood Center on Saturday April 15th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The public can drop off Lithium-ion rechargeable devices and batteries for recycling by Redwood Materials, a company that recycles the minerals and uses them to make new rechargeable batteries. Eligible items include cellphones, tablets, laptops, electric toothbrushes, e-shavers, vapes, wireless headphones, Bluetooth speakers, power tool batteries, video game controllers, and more.

Community Initiative Funds Request for Proposals - Deadline Extended to April 28th

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors, through the Adult and Family Services Commission, anticipates the authorization of funding to support programs that alleviate the causes of poverty in Nevada County through the issuance of Community Initiative Funds (CIF).

The deadline for proposals has been extended to April 28th at 12:00 pm.

The District Attorney’s office is seeking a Legal Secretary to join the Truckee office to support the prosecution of felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile cases. Knowledge of legal administrative practices is key to this position, as the incumbent will perform a variety of legal and administrative duties for the District Attorney's team of attorneys.
  
While not required, the ideal candidate will have skills in online research and legal case management software and be proficient in the use of technology. This role will focus on electronic information exchanges from body cam videos to criminal history retrievals to the generation of documents to be filed with the courts.
  
  Responsibilities may include: 

  • Supporting the caseload of the Truckee attorney
  • Filing complaints with the court
  • Sharing discovery and generating subpoenas
  • Maintaining detailed case status and documentation
