Point-in-Time Count set for February 24th

Nevada County’s 2022 Homeless Point-in-Time Count Set for February 24th

The Nevada County Regional Continuum of Care (NCRCoC), in coordination with Nevada County and the Homeless Resource Council of the Sierras (HRCS), announced Nevada County’s annual point-in-time count of homeless individuals and families will take place on February 24, 2022.

Point-in-time (PIT) counts are required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to receive federal funding to address homelessness. Since 2017, the State has also moved to allocate homelessness and housing funding based on local PIT count numbers. It is vitally important that everyone experiencing homelessness in Nevada County is counted and that information about their specific needs is collected to effectively utilize incoming funding to address service and housing needs for vulnerable residents of the County.

Do you know someone who is experiencing homelessness? Contact the HOME Team by calling (530) 470-2686 or email home@co.nevada.ca.us. In Eastern Nevada County, contact North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services by calling (530) 386-7954.

The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) is California's broadest environmental law, established in 1970. CEQA helps to guide the public decision-making process, develop transparency, and ensure that land-use decisions take the full impact of the development on natural and human environments into account. Veterans Services and the Madelyn Helling Library Team Up to Impact Veterans

The Nevada County Veterans Services Office (NCVSO) and Madelyn Helling Library are teaming up on an effort to build a comprehensive digital library of medical studies that will be used to help support the claims of our veterans.

The NCVSO assists veterans with obtaining compensation for injuries, diseases, or health conditions that were a result of service. When helping veterans to submit their claims for compensation to the Veterans Administration (VA), NCVSO must use every available resource to gather the evidence needed to support the claim of our veteran. Often, it's beneficial to submit a peer-reviewed medical study that supports the type of claim that the veteran is filing. These medical studies are usually only available for a fee or through a subscription service, however, the partnership with Madelyn Helling Library will help create better access and advocacy for our veteran community.

YubaNet: Getting Ready for Peak Fire Season – “Spring Cleaning”

This week, we’ll tackle brush and sheds. Brush clearing, also know as the gift that keeps on giving, is on our weekly menu. Winter, even one as dry and warm as this one, is a great time to tackle the fuel reduction project. Fewer leaves and relatively softer soil make some of the work easier. After the winter storm, more brush than usual awaits your attention.

Removing the undergrowth is a critical step in making your property safer. Restoring the landscape to a more natural state contributes to forest health, minimizes ignition risks and, in case of a fire, can reduce fire intensity thanks to a reduced fuel load.
