Revised Notice of Availability - Draft EIR and Notice of Public Meeting to Provide Comments on the Idaho-Maryland Mine Project

Idaho-Maryland Mine EIR Public Comment Period Extended

The public comment period has been extended until Monday, April 4, 2022 at 5:00pm to allow the public a total of 91 days to submit comments. This notice is to also announce that the Special Public Meeting before the Nevada County Planning Commission has been rescheduled to March 24, 2022.

The comment period has been extended due to the Winter Storm events in late December into January, which caused Nevada County residents to lose utility power and internet capabilities for an extended period of time.

No Cost Masks & Sanitizer Available for Small Businesses and Nonprofits

No cost surgical masks, N95 masks, and hand sanitizer are available at locations across Nevada County for small businesses and nonprofits.  

To request PPE, business owners and nonprofits must complete an online application in advance. After completing the online PPE request form, small businesses may print their confirmation email, or display their confirmation email when picking up PPE. Please complete one form per business only. Hand sanitizer, surgical masks, and N95 masks will be available while supplies last.

Welcome Back Inside on 2/15! All libraries will resume in-person services on February 15th

Library Resumes In-Person Services on February 15th

On Tuesday February 15th, The Nevada County Community Library will be resuming in-person services at all branches. Patrons will be invited back into the buildings to browse the shelves, use public computers, and enjoy library spaces once more.

“We know our libraries are much more than books,” said Nick Wilczek, County Librarian. “We are happy to welcome everyone back to safely enjoy these spaces. I’d like to thank our community for their patience and understanding over the past few weeks.”

Library Offers Free Online Genealogy Class on Friday, February 18th

Registration is now open for “Genealogy 101: How to Start and Organize Your Family History,” a free online Zoom class offered by Nevada County’s Doris Foley Library for Historical Research on Friday, February 18th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Instructor Susan Rogers, a frequent presenter for the Nevada County Genealogical Society and teacher of genealogy classes for the Sierra College OLLI program, will cover the basics of family history research, including how to organize your information, the best free and paid websites, common mistakes to avoid, and much more. Participants must register to receive the Zoom link to the program. Gusty Winds and Elevated Fire Weather Concerns Early Next Week

National Weather Service Sacramento is predicting gusty winds Monday through Wednesday. Following an extended period of dry weather and a few days of near or above record high temperatures, these winds will elevate fire weather concerns.

Given the elevated fire concerns, avoid outdoor burning. Breezy winds can carry sparks leading to fire starts, even in spring. Save burn piles for cooler, calmer days.

National 211 Day Celebrates Integral Work of 211 Call Center

Friday, February 11 is National 211 Day, when we celebrate the individuals behind the life enhancing services of 211 call centers. 211 Connecting Point is Nevada County’s free, multilingual information and referral call center. Residents may dial 2-1-1 to receive 24/7 live assistance and connect with community and health resources and services including senior care, transportation, housing assistance, suicide prevention and disaster services.

211 Connecting Point serves Nevada County, Placer County, and the Tahoe-Truckee region. According to Call Center Program Manager Lindsay Gordon, 211 is successful as a result of “a combination of compassionate and knowledgeable call agents, dedicated resource specialists, partnering non-profit and county agencies committed to serving our community, and every resident who calls us.”
