Public Health has seen the availability in our appointment scheduling system increase in the last few weeks, so we have opened up eligibility for Nevada County Public Health clinics to everyone 16 and older. It is important to remember: - Everyone 50+ is eligible at all vaccine providers, including Public Health clinics.

Nevada County Transit Public Art InstallationNevada County Transit Services is inviting proposals from artist(s) for original artwork as part of a Transit rebranding project, and subsequent brand awareness campaign, supported by Nevada County Arts Council, and launched in anticipation of California Arts, Culture and Creativity Month in April. Artists are encouraged to create a visual representation of their “version” of Nevada County in the form of a design which will be displayed using the “canvas” of the Transit Services Division fleet of eleven buses in the form of a single vinyl bus wrap. Nevada County Transit Services is inviting proposals from artist(s) for original artwork as part of a Transit rebranding project. Nevada County Community Library Sets Reopening DateThe Nevada County Community Library will be reopening all of its branches for limited hours and capacity starting Wednesday, April 7th. Patrons are invited to browse and select materials for checkout within a 30-minute time period. This “Grab and Go” model of library service offers the greatest amount of safety for visitors and staff.
County Librarian Nick Wilczek is thrilled to be able to welcome the public back into the libraries. “Library staff have been working hard to provide services safely during the pandemic, but we are all excited to have people enjoying our facilities and browsing for their next great read,” he notes. “We have all missed the face-to-face interactions that are so important in a close-knit community like Nevada County.”

Public Hearing to Discuss Possible State CDBG ApplicationThe public hearing on April 5th at 1:00 p.m. provides the public the opportunity to make comments regarding types of eligible activities to be considered for application.
The Community Development and Economic Development allocations of the State CDBG program are published in a “Notice of Funding Availability” (NOFA) each program year. Eligible cities and counties may submit Community Development and Housing applications for CDBG funds under the 2021 NOFA for a maximum per application request of $1,500,000.00. It is estimated that the funding of the State 2021 CDBG program allocation is approximately $30,000,000. Nevada County anticipates submitting an application under the NOFA published during the next program year.

Vernon, Nevada County Treasurer and Tax Collector, would like to remind property owners that the due date for the 2nd installment of the 2020-2021 secured tax bill is April 12, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. Payments must be received in this office or show a postmark of April 12, 2021. If mailing close to this date, we highly encourage a hand stamped timely postmark to ensure timely payment. If received after the April 12th date without a timely postmark, a 10% penalty plus a $10 cost will be added for late payment.

Prescribed Burn on Saturday April 3rd, North of Nevada City Near Round MountainA prescribed burn will be conducted on one-half acre of private land on Merrimas Way between Rock Creek Road and Hudson Road on the north side of Round Mountain. It will be directed by a retired firefighter/forester experienced in conducting burns. Personnel will be volunteers from the Yuba-Bear Burn Cooperative, friends and neighbors.
This low-intensity surface burn will be completed in one day. After completion, the area will be patrolled and monitored daily until fire is fully extinguished. Northern Sierra Air Quality Management Board has confirmed that Saturday will be a permissive burn day. Permits are not required by CAL FIRE, but the local battalion chiefs have been notified and their command center will be contacted the morning of the burn.
