550 Residents Vaccinated by Public Health at Saturday ClinicOn Saturday, March 20th the Nevada County Public Health Department hosted a large COVID-19 vaccination event at the Whispering Pines clinic in Grass Valley. With 550 individuals vaccinated, this was Public Health’s largest clinic to date.
“We’re so grateful to our partners for helping us reach out to those who are at higher risk for COVID-19 exposure and serious illness,” said Nevada County Public Health Director Jill Blake. “Vaccinating those who work in homecare, grocery stores, restaurants, and agriculture is key to protecting the community as a whole.”

State Expands Vaccine Eligibility to 50+ on April 1st and 16+ on April 15thStarting April 1st, everyone 50 years old and older will be eligible to make an appointment for COVID-19 vaccine in California. Starting April 15th, everyone 16 years old and older will be eligible for an appointment.
Currently, everyone in the state's Phase 1A and Phase 1B are eligible right now to sign up for vaccine appointments. This includes health care workers, education and childcare, food and agriculture, emergency services, and people 65 and older.

Nevada County Has Moved into the Red TierOn Tuesday, Nevada County met the State’s metrics for the Red Tier for two consecutive weeks and has moved into the Red Tier as of Wednesday, March 24th. With Tuesday’s update, Nevada County has a daily case rate of 8 qualifying Nevada County for the Red Tier under the reassessment of the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy thresholds.
In the Red Tier, business sectors such as restaurants, gyms, and movie theaters will have reduced capacity indoors. Individual action leads to collective mitigation, and everyone’s efforts to help lower COVID transmission are reflected in our tier data.

Community Meeting: Introduction to CEQA, April 1stJoin Nevada County for an online community meeting introducing CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) to residents on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CEQA is a statewide policy implemented for environmental protection. The CEQA law requirements mandate that state and local agencies to follow a protocol of analysis and public disclosure of potential environmental impacts associated with proposed development projects.
The County of Nevada is providing this online community meeting in order to educate anyone interested in how the CEQA process works and how they can become involved and informed of land use developments that they may be interested in learning more about.

Develop Defensible Space with Backyard BurningAt this time of year, open residential backyard burning is allowed in unincorporated Nevada County* without a permit from CAL FIRE or a local fire district. As weather warms and humidity levels drop, CAL FIRE will soon announce when burn permits will be required.
Burn piles are prohibited in the city limits of Grass Valley and Nevada City. A burn permit from the Truckee Fire Protection District is required in the Town of Truckee. Some Homeowner Associations may also require permits or may prohibit burning; inquire with your association for the rules in your neighborhood.

County Partners to Host Young at Art 2021Young at Art is an annual celebration of the national program recognizing Youth Art Month, which officially takes place the month of March. The program is a public testimony to the value of the arts in education. Every year Eric Rood Administration Center personnel express great joy in this large exhibition of student work. This program is sponsored by the County of Nevada, Nevada County Arts Council and Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office Artwork will be displayed at the Eric Rood Administration Center March 8th through May 21, 2021.

Nevada County Begins Redistricting ProcessEvery ten years, local governments that elect by district must redraw their district lines to assure nearly equal population counts. The data received by the Census in the fall of 2021 is used to redraw the new district lines and the process must be completed by mid-December.
Redistricting impacts every community in Nevada County. The redistricting process determines which neighborhoods are grouped together in a district for the purpose of electing a new board member to represent that district. Nevada County has created a Redistricting Commission comprised of County staff and a Redistricting Advisory Council comprised of residents to assist in the redistricting process.

State Invests Nearly $3.5 Million for Nevada County Transportation ImprovementsThe California Transportation Commission (CTC) allocated $491 million to address transportation needs throughout the state. This investment, which includes $273 million generated from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, will repair highways and bridges and improve California’s growing network of mass transit, bicycle and pedestrian routes.
$2.85 million was allocated for culvert rehabilitation on State Route 49 between Higgins Corner and Lime Kiln Road in Nevada County, and at Lone Star Road and just south of Lorenson Road in Placer County. Another $630,000 was received by the Town of Truckee for the Legacy Trail-Brockway Road Multi-Use Trail Connection project with SB1 funding. Improvements also include repaving Brockway Road, upgrades to the storm drain system and retaining wall construction.

Treated Wood Waste at the McCourtney Road Transfer Station McCourtney Road Transfer Station will be accepting treated wood waste starting on Wednesday March 24th. Please read below requirements before bringing your treated wood load in: - The treated wood cannot be comingled with any other material including untreated wood
- All those transporting treated wood must carry with them a shipping document and submit the same on arrival to Waste Management Staff.
- Treated wood loads should also be labeled during transport.
- Those without the shipping document will have to provide all the information upon arrival to WM staff. This information is required to be provided by Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC).
- All transporters of treated wood must have applied for and received a variance from DTSC. WM will not reject customers who do not have a variance but WM is required to report this information to DTSC by law.
- Residential customers with a load of 50 lbs. or less are exempt and will not require a variance
