On January 18th, we will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day by closing administrative County offices. We remember Dr. King’s contributions toward racial equality on this day. Here at the County of Nevada, we strive to emulate Dr. King’s example by creating a culture of equity and inclusion. Through the County’s continued work with The Equity & Inclusion Leadership Alliance, we will continue to focus on reducing racism, racial bias and inequity in Nevada County. We look forward sharing our progress and opportunities to learn and collaborate in 2021.

Nevada County Enters Purple Tier

Nevada County Exits Stay Home Order and Enters into Purple Tier

The State has lifted the Regional Stay Home Order for the Greater Sacramento Region, which includes Nevada County. Due to Nevada County's current daily average of COVID-19 cases and positivity rate, Nevada County will be exiting the Stay Home Order and entering into the Widespread Purple Tier.

Although this is welcome news that our ICU capacity is projected to be above 15%, Nevada County remains well into the Widespread Purple Tier with significant business modifications. Nevada County Public Health continues to thank the community for wearing a mask, being mindful of social distancing and refraining from social gatherings. Together, we can stop the surge to save lives and work towards lowering our daily COVID-19 cases and positivity rate which may allow us to move into the less restrictive Red Tier.

Nevada County Relief Fund

Nevada County Relief Fund Awards $287,500 in “Survival” Grants to 73 Small Businesses

When the State announced the regional stay-at-home order last month to slow the spread of COVID-19, the Nevada County Relief Fund launched its’ “Small Business Winter Survival Campaign” to help the most impacted businesses survive. With the generous support of local residents and community leaders, the Nevada County Relief Fund raised $287,500 in the last four weeks, which were awarded to 73 small businesses countywide on Thursday.

“The County put up the $100,000 ‘challenge grant’ right before Christmas, and this amazing community of ours matched it with $112,000 in a matter of weeks,” said County Supervisor and Board Chair Dan Miller. “My wife and I ran a small business on Mill Street for years, so we know how hard it’s been for retailers, and how much these grants can help.”

Heidi Hall

Message from Exiting Chair Heidi Hall

As my year as Board Chair comes to an end, I want to start this message with a heartfelt expression of gratitude.
I am grateful to our County staff, our Public Health team, and community partners, who stepped up with great courage and determination to serve our community during this unprecedented public health emergency. As we begin to administer the vaccine, we have reason for hope.

Working together, we’ve faced the pandemic head-on. It’s not over yet, but armed with the facts, we know what we need to do to protect the health and safety of our families, friends, and neighbors: wear face masks, wash our hands, and maintain social distance. By taking these common-sense precautions now, we can return to a strong economy, open schools, and normal day-to-day activities.

These are trying times, but the generosity of our community won the day. One highlight is the Nevada County Relief Fund, which leveraged public dollars with personal donations to the tune of more than $1 Million – helping small business across the County and many of our most vulnerable residents.

Child Welfare Services Christmas Appreciation

Nevada County Child Welfare Services would like to send a heartfelt and indebted “thank you” to all of the County offices, community services providers and community members for making the holiday season wonderful for our local families and foster children through their selfless donations. The community’s ability to come together each year and meet the needs of our Counties most vulnerable population is greatly appreciated. The substantial amount of donations of food baskets, gift cards, clothes, warm jackets, blankets and school supplies lets our most vulnerable population know that our community is there for them to help ensure their basic needs are met.

Thank you to everyone who continues to help with this worthy cause year after year, we could not provide these much needed resources to our Nevada County Families and foster youth without your generous contributions each year.

Caltrans Celebrates Completion of Acceleration Lanes Project

Caltrans has recognized the successful completion of the $3.8 million State Route 49 Wolf/Combie Acceleration Lanes Project with a virtual ribbon-cutting video. Because in-person events have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the department chose this virtual ribbon-cutting event to acknowledge the efforts of its staff, contractor DeSilva Gates Construction of Sacramento and the valuable local partnerships that helped make this project a success.

“This is one of several safety improvement projects planned for the Highway 49 corridor,” said Caltrans District 3 Director Amarjeet S. Benipal. “The Wolf/Combie acceleration lane project increases safety for vehicles entering the highway at this intersection and is one of the more than $160 million in improvements completed, in construction or planned for the corridor by state and local agencies.”
