Nevada County News - Engage with your local government from Nevada County CEO, Alison Lehman

As 2020 draws to a close, I want to express my gratitude to our County staff, community providers and each of our residents.  We saw our community step up in extraordinary ways this past year.

We've launched the Nevada County Relief Fund which has raised and distributed $800,000 since April. We’ve kept essential services going, from staying safe while out in the field or implementing automation services to best serve our customers. We continue to stay the course and recognize that we don't have to choose between our economy or our community health - we can choose both. We've continued to meet our community's needs, even while needs increased as our resources, fundraising opportunities and available volunteers narrowed. And these are just a few of the many accomplishments we can celebrate as we near the end of 2020.

It's because of our community's strength and resiliency that I continue to be proud to call Nevada County both my home and where I get the privilege to work and serve. Thank you for all you've done to take care of our community this year. Wishing you a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.

Truly,
Alison Lehman, County Executive Officer

Stay ho-ho-home #HomeForTheHolidays

Stay Home for the Holidays

The spread of COVID-19 is increasing across the country and California has quickly become a COVID hotspot. This surge in infections is directly related to gatherings. As the holidays fast approach, our Public Health team urges you to stay home for the holidays and avoid gathering with anyone outside of your household.

There's still time to have a COVID-safe holiday. Check out these helpful tips on “having the COVID chat” with your friends and relatives:

  • Be clear: Say “no” to anything that could increase risk for you or the people you care about
  • Offer alternatives: Ask if there’s another way to connect with family. Acknowledge you want to see them and find a different way to share the experience.
  • Drop off holiday meals for older loved ones and those with medical conditions, so they can stay home.
  • Plan safe celebrations in advance, then stick to the plan.
  • Be honest: Remind people that you care about them and need to take precautions this year for everyone’s health.

Covered CA Deadline Extended to December 30th

Covered California announced on Friday that for the first time in its history, it would give consumers until December 30th to sign up for health care coverage that begins on January 1, 2021. The unprecedented move comes as COVID-19 infections and deaths surge throughout the state.

“The pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on all of our lives, and Covered California wants to give those who need health insurance as much time as possible to sign up and get coverage that starts on January 1st,” said Peter V. Lee, Executive Director of Covered California. “We know there are more than 1.2 million Californians who are uninsured right now, even though they are eligible to receive financial assistance to help to pay for their coverage, and giving them more time is the right thing to do."
