To show support for our graduating high school students in our community the first 300 students will receive a free bag of kettle corn. Tickets for the first 300 students will be distributed upon entry to the Carhop event and exchanged at the California Gold Kettle Corn booth.

Nevada County Concludes Fiscal Year 20/21 Budget HearingsOn June 2, 2020, the County of Nevada conducted budget hearings for the fiscal year 20/21 County Budget. Nevada County’s long-standing Board of Supervisors’ budget and financial management policies have created a solid foundation and helped set the stage for dealing with the COVID-19 crisis now and for the coming fiscal year.

Nevada County confirmed COVID-19 cases increases to 48Nevada County received notification of six new COVID-19 cases this week; five of the residents are closely connected with a common exposure, and the sixth was a person who had no symptoms. All are adults residing in Eastern Nevada County. All have been notified and are isolating. In addition, household contacts are in quarantine.
“Although our hospitals are prepared for a surge in COVID-19 cases, we have case investigation and contact tracing process systems in place and more testing available, COVID-19 remains a risk to our community,” said Public Health Director Jill Blake.

Nevada County Relief Fund Sets Goal to Raise $500,000 by 4th of JulyThe Nevada County Relief Fund has set its sights on raising $500,000 by the 4th of July. Having received over $1,175,000 in funding requests from local nonprofits and small businesses heavily impacted by COVID-19, and disbursing $210,000 in grants last week, this new goal was set in recognition of the significant and ongoing need in the community.

Board of Supervisors Public Meeting on June 9thPursuant to Governor Gavin Newsom's Executive Order pertaining to the convening of public meetings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the County of Nevada hereby provides notice that it will hold its regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors by remote. The Board of Supervisors will attend the meeting and participate to the same extent as if they were present.
Following approval of the Consent Calendar the Board will consider a Resolution approving a Grant Agreement between the County of Nevada and Homeless Resource Council of the Sierras for California Emergency Solutions and Housing, Emergency Shelter and Housing Services to provide up to $300,000 in funding to the County to support County and Continuum of Care strategic objectives to address homelessness.
Then the Board will consider acceptance of the Nevada County Public Health Department's 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) informational presentation and the Office of Emergency Services' Wildfire Preparedness update focused on preparing for Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).
Finally, the Board will conduct a Public hearing to consider the Nevada County Planning Commission’s April 23, 2020, recommendation to adopt an ordinance for amendments to Section L-II 3.4 of Chapter II Zoning Regulations and the addition of Section L-II 3.4.1 to Chapter II Zoning Regulations of the Land Use and Development Code to allow a limited number of backyard chickens in R1 and RA zoning districts. Following the Public Hearing the board will vote on an Ordinance mentioned above.

Summer Lunches for Kids at the Grass Valley and Madelyn Helling LibrariesFor the third year in a row, children ages 18 and under can get a free, healthy lunch five days a week at the Grass Valley Library. Starting Monday, June 8, a bag lunch will be offered for pick-up from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. in the shady backyard of the library, located at 207 Mill Street in downtown Grass Valley. A fun, take-home activity will also be available. Summer Lunches at the Library are offered Monday through Friday beginning June 8 and ending July 31.

FREE Green Waste Disposal Opportunities in Western & Eastern Nevada CountyGrant funding from the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District (NSAQMD) expands free residential green waste disposal opportunities throughout Nevada County. The Office of Emergency Services is partnering with the Fire Safe Council, 211 Connecting Point, Town of Truckee, Truckee Fire Protection District, and Keep Truckee Green to make this possible.
Western Nevada County Green Waste Disposal days are on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays in Penn Valley, Grass Valley, and Alta Sierra through June 27th, from 9am-3pm.
Eastern Nevada County Green Waste Disposal days will be at the Truckee Rodeo Grounds on June 19th and June 26th, from 8am-2pm.
