Nevada County Environmental Health Department Hosts Temporary Food Facility Carhop Event - Apply NowLast week, the Environmental Health Department announced the Temporary Food Facility Carhop Events intended to support local food vendors and provide the community with a safe way to get their favorite summer treats.
Applications are now open to food vendors looking to participate.
Events are scheduled to run every weekend from May 30th through July 26th, 2020. Vendors will set up at the Nevada County Eric Rood Center Administration building (950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City, CA) and will feature 2 main items and 1 side item. Customers will drive up, park, and the Vendor Carhop will come to your vehicle and take your order. This event will follow COVID-19 guidelines to protect participants.

Board of Supervisors Public Meeting on May 26th Pursuant to Governor Gavin Newsom's Executive Order pertaining to the convening of public meetings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the County of Nevada hereby provides notice that it will hold its regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors by remote. The Board of Supervisors will attend the meeting and participate to the same extent as if they were present.
Following approval of the Consent Calendar, the Board will consider acceptance of the Nevada County Public Health Department's 2019 Novel Coronavirus informational presentation.
The Board will then consider the adoption of a resolution amending and extending Resolution 20-101 exercising police power to impose substantive limitations of Residential and Commercial Evictions and Judicial Foreclosures to July 31th, 2020.
Afterward the Board will consider adopting resolutions for Successor MOU's for the Management Employee's Association and the Probation Peace Officers' Association providing changes in Compensation and Terms and Conditions of Employment, for the period July 1, 2020 through June 30 2022.
The Board will also hold a public hearing to consider the Nevada County Planning Commission's, recommendations for the Swope Medical Group, Inc. and then vote on an Ordinance amending a Zoning District Map located in the unincorporated area of Nevada County APN 065-270-003.
The Board will then consider acceptance of the Office of Emergency Services' Wildfire Preparedness informational presentation.
Finally, the Board will consider a request by Supervisor Scofield to send a Letter of Support for AB 3012 concerning Residential Property Insurance.
There are many ways the public can participate during this meeting which are described in the Public Meeting Protocol.

Nick Wilczek Announced as Nevada County LibrarianAfter a strong candidate recruitment, Nevada County Executive Officer Alison Lehman has appointed Nick Wilczek as the Nevada County Librarian effective June 22nd, 2020. Mr. Wilczek has spent the past two years as Director of the Humboldt County Library (HCL).
During Nick’s time with HCL, the library developed a new strategic plan, created a type of account for community members without a permanent address, and brought broadband internet access to multiple branches. Nick’s professional philosophy focuses on improving the customer experience and building relationships throughout the community. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Library Science degrees, both from the University of Kentucky.

Nevada County Libraries Start Curbside and Front Door Pickup ServicesThe Nevada County Community Library will begin a curbside and front door pickup service for four of its branches starting on Tuesday May 26th. Patrons of the Grass Valley, Madelyn Helling, Penn Valley, and Truckee Libraries will be able to stop by their favorite location from 12pm to 3pm Monday through Friday to pick up books, DVDs, music CDS, magazines, and audiobooks. . Patrons can return materials 24/7 without concern of being charged fees until June 26th as the library will be waiving any fines that have accrued during the COVID19 crisis. All returned materials will be handled according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for the safety of patrons and staff.

Rachel Roos Announced as Nevada County Social Services DirectorNevada County is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Roos as Nevada County’s Social Services Director, effective June 16th, 2020. Since 2011 Rachel has served as Executive Director of Victor Community Support Services, a community-based organization focused on mental health and support services for children and families. Rachel has worked closely with Juvenile Probation, Child Welfare, Children’s Behavioral Health and other community organizations. Prior to joining Victor, Rachel was the Program Manager for Child Welfare in Nevada County. "I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve our citizens alongside some of the most dedicated, caring, and collaborative people I’ve ever encountered." Great Plates Delivered Begins Service in Nevada CountyThe County of Nevada is launching the Great Plates Delivered program to ensure no senior goes hungry in Nevada County during the COVID-19 crisis.
Three fresh meals a day will be delivered to those who qualify with the help of three local restaurants, fulfilling the purposes of the state-wide plan to help seniors and older adults at high risk from COVID-19 to stay home and stay healthy by delivering three nutritious meals a day, and provide essential economic stimulus to local businesses struggling to stay afloat during the COVID-19 crisis.
