The Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Housing Program is funded as an element under the Community Services and Support (CSS) component of the Act. MHSA Housing funds are used to finance the capital costs associated with development, acquisition, construction and / or rehabilitation of permanent supportive housing for individuals with serious mental illness who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who meet our target population as identified in the Nevada County CSS component of the county's Three Year plan. The MHSA Housing Program also make available capitalized operating subsidies.
The goal of the MHSA Housing Program is to expand safe, affordable housing options for individuals with serious mental illness who receive services through the MHSA.
Part of the MHSA Housing Three Year Plan is a supportive service plan and service delivery program. The supportive services to be provided must be appropriate to the MHSA Housing program target population and must be designed to support in housing stability as well as wellness, recovery and resiliency. These supportive services will be provided by Turning Point Providence Center, Behavioral Health New Directions, Uplift Family Services and Victor Community Support Services.
Nevada County Behavioral Health is collaborating with Nevada County Housing Development Corporation (NCHDC) to implement our MHSA Housing Program. NCHDC has taken a loan from MHSA Housing funds to purchase a single family home in Grass Valley. This home houses five individuals. A second house was purchased by NCHDC with MHSA Housing that houses six individuals.
