This program consists of a surveillance team that monitors and responds to vector-borne diseases including plague, hantavirus, tickborne diseases, West Nile Virus and others.
Birds play an important role in maintaining and spreading West Nile Virus(WNV). The public is encouraged to assist in the efforts to detect and monitor WNV by calling the WNV hotline (877)968-BIRD if they find a bird that has been dead for approximately 24 hours. Bird species that are part of this program include: crows, ravens, magpies, jays or hawks.
